Am I eligible for the Covid-19 booster?
JCVI advises that for the 2021 COVID-19 booster vaccine programme individuals who received vaccination in Phase 1 of the COVID-19 vaccination programme (priority groups 1 to 9) should be offered a third dose COVID-19 booster vaccine.

This includes:

  • those living in residential care homes for older adults
  • all adults aged 50 years or over
  • frontline health and social care workers
  • all those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 (as set out in the green book), and adult carers
  • adult household contacts (aged 16 or over) of immunosuppressed individuals

As most younger adults will only have received their second COVID-19 vaccine dose in late summer or early autumn, the benefits of booster vaccination in this group will be considered at a later time when more information is available.

I am eligible, so when can I get my third Covid-19 Vaccination Booster?

If you are eligible, you’ll be invited to get a booster vaccine when it is your turn, and at least six months after your second dose. Boosters will be given in the same order of priority as for the initial vaccine, as follows:

  1. Care home residents and staff
  1. People aged 80 and over, and frontline health and social care workers
  1. People aged 75 and over
  1. People aged 70 and over, and adults who are clinically extremely vulnerable

Can I have the Covid-19 Booster at the same time as my Flu Vaccination?
We are waiting for national clinical guidance in order for us to co-administer Covid and Flu Vaccinations for our patients. From WC 20 September, we should be able to co-administer Covid and Flu Booster Vaccinations.

Until then, when patients are contacted to book an appointment for a Flu Vaccination with any of the Alliance for Better Care managed sites, they will be asked to confirm if they would like to receive the Covid Booster Vaccine at the same appointment. If patients receive their flu vaccination at one of our sites prior to co-administration, we will ensure there is the opportunity to book a further appt with our team to return for your Covid Booster Vaccine.
Our Roving Teams are starting to visit vulnerable patients at home to administer Flu Vaccinations. For those who are seen prior to co-administration, the roving team will return to those patients for their booster jab.

Do I have to wait to be called or can I book an appointment for both?
Please wait to be contacted about your Covid-19 Booster Vaccination and please don’t call your local GP practice as they will not be able to book you for an appointment directly.

If you’ve been contacted by your practice to book a Flu Vaccination
Our contact centre staff will ask you if you’re happy to book both vaccinations at the same time and we will facilitate this wherever possible

Will there be a choice in Vaccination given?
JCVI advises a preference for the Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2/ Comirnaty®) vaccine to be offered as the third booster dose irrespective of which vaccine the patient received for their initial doses. If patients have any concerns, they can discuss this with the Clinical Lead on site on the day of the appointment and ask the vaccinator any questions.
